Virginia has been the winemaker at Galer Estate since May of 2014, and is slowly but surely replanting Galer’s vineyards with less common varietals that she feels will better express the unique soils and climates of Kennett Square. She graduated from Penn State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, focusing on Enology, and has not only worked under highly regarded winemakers on the East Coast, but also worked a vintage at Two Hands Wines in South Australia. At Galer Estate she has been making thought provoking, award winning and delicious wines and recently even earned a gold and a silver medal in the prestigious San Francisco Chronicle competition . Come nerd out on process and theory and get a glimpse into the bright future of Pennsylvania winemaking.
A Little More About Galer Estate:
Located in Kennett Square, PA, Brad and Lele Galer opened their winery to the public in November of 2011, and have won over 100 medals and awards for their Chester produced and made wines. The idea was to make the best possible quality wine that they could make, using locally produced fruit, the most advanced equipment, and an excellent wine maker. Depending on the vintage, 70-90% of the grapes they use are from their our own Chester County Galer Vineyards (Red Lion Vineyard and Home Vineyard), and the remainder come from vineyards within a 30 mile radius of the winery.
Brad Galer is a pharmaceutical executive who is a Neurologist specializing in chronic pain and pediatric epilepsy, and he is lead singer in the rock band “the Pharmers”. His passion for wine was what started the Galers on their winery journey. Lele Galer manages the winery, and is also an artist (painter and welder www.lelegaler.com), has an Art Watch art column in local papers, runs art shows, manages the Brandywine Artisan Wine Trail, and is very involved in the arts community and local non-profits. They have raised three sons in Chester County. They credit the winery’s success to the commitment and expertise of their wonderful staff and the incredibly supportive Chester County community!
