The Amphora: A Return to Ancient Winemaking

Thousands of years ago in ancient Georgia, where wine was born, the only vessel available to winemakers were terra cotta pots known as amphora. In recent years, there has been a reemergence of this ancient urn among wine producers. They claim that the amphora allows them to show the purest expression of their grapes. It’s no surprise that the technique is being used by winemakers keen on natural, organic production with limited human intervention. We will be featuring wines made in amphora in a flight and also educating those interested in learning more about this historical method.
